PRINCE WILLIAM COUNTY, VA (April 15, 2025) — A driver was hospitalized after an Amtrak train struck a pickup truck on Tuesday, April 15.

Passengers and conductors on the train were unharmed.
Train-vehicle collisions at railroad crossings can have devastating consequences, particularly when involving smaller vehicles like pickup trucks. These accidents remain a significant concern in Virginia, where multiple rail lines intersect with roadways across the state.
When a train hits a pickup truck in Virginia, victims may have several legal options depending on the circumstances. Injured parties might pursue claims against the railroad company if there’s evidence of negligence, such as inadequate crossing warnings, malfunctioning signals, or operator error. Similarly, claims could be filed against truck drivers who disregard crossing signals or attempt to beat approaching trains.
Virginia follows the “contributory negligence” rule, which means if a victim is found even partially responsible for the accident, they may be barred from recovering damages. This makes thorough investigation and proper legal representation crucial in these cases.
Victims typically have two years from the accident date to file personal injury lawsuits under Virginia’s statute of limitations. However, claims against government entities may have shorter timeframes.
