Pedestrian Dies After Being Hit By a Pickup Truck in Chantilly

5 stars

A man was killed in the morning of December 23 after being struck by a truck in Fairfax County, Virginia.

According to news reports, the Fairfax County Police Department responded to the scene of a pedestrian accident at Route 28 and Poplar Tree Road in Chantilly. Officers said the motorist had stayed at the scene when police arrived.

The man was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident. The cause of the crash remains under investigation.

What to Do After a Pedestrian Accident

Unfortunately, pedestrian accidents are often deadly. According to the Fairfax County Health Department, there are 172 crashes involving pedestrians every year in the county, and on average, 16 pedestrians die in traffic crashes each year. Traffic accidents involving pedestrians are 54 times more likely to be fatal than motor vehicle accidents involving only cars (excluding motorcycles).

No one expects to be in a pedestrian accident, but being prepared can help you in the long run. If you are injured as a pedestrian, try to stay calm. Don’t move, even if you don’t think you’re that injured. Wait for emergency personnel to arrive and go to the hospital.

If the driver remains on the scene, ensure you get their contact information and any witnesses’ contact information. You may want to ask a family member or friend to come to the accident scene to collect this information if you cannot.

If the driver leaves the scene, try to make a note of the vehicle, such as the make, the color, and any of the license plates, if possible.

If you lost a loved one in a pedestrian accident, you do have the option to file a wrongful death lawsuit. Contact an experienced Fairfax County wrongful death lawyer to learn your next steps.
