PRINCE GEORGE’S COUNTY — Fatal Four-Car Accident Involves Stolen Car

5 stars

JESSUP, MD (May 14, 2025) – A car crash involved four vehicles, and killed one man on Friday, May 9. Three teens fled the accident and remain at-large, while one other teen involved was hospitalized. The car they used was stolen six days prior to the accident.

Howard County Police officers were dispatched after 3 p.m. for a crash involving four vehicles on Guilford Road near Twelve Sons Court and Mission Road.

The stolen car, occupied by four teenagers, tried to pass a Tesla that was about to turn. The car sideswiped the Tesla and another car before hitting a fourth car head-on.

The driver of the car, who was hit head-on, was taken to Howard County General Hospital, where she succumbed to her injuries and passed away.

The four boys fled from the stolen car. One boy, who has been identified as 16 years old, was severely injured and taken to Shock Trauma, where he is stable but unable to communicate. The three others remain at large.

The car that was struck head-on was damaged so severely that pieces were sent in all directions. The stolen car ended up in a ditch against a tree, and the other vehicles were also damaged.

No charges have been filed. Investigations continue.

Fatal Car Accidents in Maryland Involving Stolen Vehicles

In Maryland, car accidents involving stolen vehicles often result in devastating fatalities. With a vehicle stolen every 22 minutes and 11,143 thefts in 2021 alone, these incidents present unique legal challenges for victims’ families seeking justice and compensation.

Liability in Stolen Vehicle Accidents

In Maryland:

  • Vehicle owners generally aren’t liable for accidents caused by thieves
  • The thief bears primary responsibility
  • Insurance complications arise as policies typically don’t cover stolen vehicles

Essential Legal Steps for Families

  1. Contact Law Enforcement – Obtain all police reports documenting the accident
  2. Consult Regan Zambri Long – Our attorneys will identify compensation sources and navigate Maryland’s strict contributory negligence rule
  3. Investigate Third-Party Liability – We explore all potentially responsible parties:
    • Businesses with inadequate security
    • Other negligent drivers
    • Government entities responsible for road conditions
    • Vehicle manufacturers, if defects contributed
  4. Explore Insurance Options – Including uninsured motorist coverage, PIP benefits, and health insurance
  5. File a Wrongful Death Claim – Must be filed within three years to recover:
    • Funeral expenses
    • Medical costs
    • Lost financial support
    • Loss of companionship

Maryland’s Contributory Negligence Challenge

Maryland’s contributory negligence rule can bar recovery if the victim was even slightly at fault, making experienced legal representation critical.
