Gas Leak Explosions: Understanding Your Rights and Legal Options

Gas leak explosions can cause devastating injuries and property damage in mere seconds. These catastrophic events often leave victims facing extensive medical bills, lost wages, and profound physical and emotional trauma. At Regan Zambri Long, we’re committed to helping explosion victims understand their rights and pursue the compensation they deserve.

Common Injuries from Gas Explosions

Gas explosions typically cause several serious injuries:

  • Severe burns – First, second, and third-degree burns that may require skin grafts, multiple surgeries, and lengthy hospital stays
  • Blast injuries – Damage to internal organs, traumatic brain injuries, and hearing loss from the explosive force
  • Respiratory damage – Lung injuries from inhaling hot gases, smoke, and toxic chemicals
  • Broken bones and lacerations – From being thrown by the blast or struck by debris
  • Psychological trauma – PTSD, anxiety, and depression following the traumatic event

These injuries often require extensive, costly medical treatment and may result in permanent disability or disfigurement.

Legal Steps to Take After a Gas Explosion

If you or a loved one has been injured in a gas explosion, taking these steps can protect your legal rights:

1. Seek Immediate Medical Attention

Even if injuries seem minor, get prompt medical care. Some injuries may not be immediately apparent, and medical records are crucial evidence for your claim.

2. Report the Incident

Contact your local fire department and gas company to report the explosion. These reports become official documentation of the incident.

3. Preserve Evidence

If safe to do so, take photos of the scene, your injuries, and property damage. Keep all medical records, repair estimates, and correspondence related to the explosion.

4. Avoid Giving Statements

Do not provide recorded statements to insurance companies or accept settlement offers without legal counsel. Early settlement offers are often far below what victims deserve.

5. Contact an Experienced Attorney

Gas explosion cases require specialized knowledge of regulations, liability issues, and injury valuation. At Regan Zambri Long, our attorneys have extensive experience handling complex explosion cases and can:

  • Investigate the cause of the explosion
  • Identify all potentially liable parties
  • Work with industry experts to build a strong case
  • Calculate the full extent of your current and future damages
  • Negotiate with insurance companies on your behalf
  • Take your case to trial if necessary

Potential Liable Parties

Multiple parties may be responsible for a gas explosion:

  • Gas companies
  • Appliance manufacturers
  • Property owners or landlords
  • Maintenance contractors
  • Construction companies
  • Government entities

Time Limitations

It’s crucial to act quickly after a gas explosion. Statutes of limitations restrict how long you have to file a claim, and evidence may disappear over time.
