Car Accidents in Prince George’s County

Prince George’s County led Maryland in fatal car accidents in 2023, with 129 deaths from 20,591 crashes – surpassing both Baltimore County (93 fatalities) and Baltimore City (45 fatalities), according to the Maryland Highway Safety Office.

These accidents often stem from preventable causes, including impaired driving, distraction (especially texting), and excessive speed. The most lethal crash types include head-on collisions and T-bone impacts, particularly when involving vehicles of different sizes. Single-vehicle accidents, often occurring at night or in poor weather, pose a significant risk when drivers strike fixed objects. Young drivers face heightened risk due to inexperience and a tendency toward riskier behavior.

The impact of fatal crashes extends well beyond the immediate loss. Families must cope with profound emotional trauma while navigating complex legal proceedings, insurance claims, and financial challenges, including funeral costs and lost income.
