CECIL COUNTY, MD (July 26, 2025) — Two men died late Saturday night in a single-vehicle crash in Elkton, Maryland, after their Jeep failed to negotiate a curve and overturned multiple times in a nearby field.
The crash occurred around 11 p.m. on July 26 in the 200 block of Fairview Road. The Cecil County Sheriff’s Office has identified the deceased as Zachary Keck, 42, of Princeton, New Jersey, and Wallace Tsoi, 41, of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.
Deputies responding to reports of a motor vehicle accident found a heavily damaged 2024 Jeep Wrangler at the scene. According to preliminary investigation findings, evidence suggests the driver failed to negotiate a curve, causing the vehicle to veer off the road, enter a field, and overturn multiple times. Both the driver and passenger were pronounced dead at the scene.
Preliminary investigations indicate that speed was a contributing factor in the crash. Emergency personnel worked to secure the scene and investigate the circumstances surrounding the fatal rollover accident.
The Cecil County Sheriff’s Office Traffic Unit continues to investigate the incident. Authorities are asking anyone with additional information to contact Cpl. Michael Thomas at (410) 392-2151 or via email at [email protected]. Those wishing to remain anonymous can provide information through the Cecil County Sheriff’s Office tip line at (410) 392-2180.
Single-vehicle rollover accidents are among the most deadly types of motor vehicle crashes, often resulting in catastrophic injuries or fatalities due to the violent nature of the vehicle overturning. In Maryland, rural roads with curves and varying terrain present particular risks for drivers who may be unfamiliar with local road conditions or traveling at excessive speeds.
Understanding the most frequent causes of fatal rollover crashes can help raise awareness about preventable tragedies:
Cecil County’s rural roads, including areas around Elkton, often feature curves, hills, and varying road conditions that require drivers to adjust their speed and remain alert. The combination of unfamiliar terrain and excessive speed can create dangerous situations that result in vehicles leaving the roadway.
When fatal accidents occur in Maryland, surviving family members may be entitled to pursue wrongful death claims under Maryland law. These claims can provide compensation for the loss of their loved ones and help families during an incredibly difficult time.
In single-vehicle crashes involving speed or other driver error, families may still have legal options if factors such as road design, vehicle defects, or other contributing causes played a role in the accident. Each case requires careful investigation to determine all potential sources of liability.
Navigating the aftermath of a fatal car accident requires specialized legal knowledge. Insurance companies often attempt to minimize payouts, even in tragic circumstances involving rollover accidents and multiple fatalities.
