Car Accidents in Bethesda, MD

According to the latest data from the Maryland Department of Transportation, Montgomery County is among the top counties in the state that experience car accidents. In 2023, there were 13,055 car crashes in the state, resulting in 3,896 injuries and 45 fatalities. Most of the injuries and fatalities stem from impaired driving, followed by speed and aggressive driving.

Maryland is a no fault state. This means if you were injured in an accident, regardless of fault, the insurance company will pay for your medical bills, property damage, and lost wages. After a car accident, you would rely on your personal injury protection, or PIP, coverage to pay your bills. All Maryland drivers must carry a minimum of $2,500.

However, it’s important to note that Maryland follows the strict “contributory negligence” rule, which states that if an injured person is found to be even 1% at fault for the accident, the person cannot recover damages in a lawsuit.
