Pedestrian Accidents in Prince George’s County, MD

Prince George’s County, Maryland has struggled with pedestrian safety issues in recent years. The county contains several high-traffic corridors with incomplete sidewalk infrastructure and dangerous crossing points that contribute to pedestrian accidents. Many of these incidents occur along major highways such as Route 1 and Branch Avenue, where high-speed traffic interfaces with pedestrian activity. Poor lighting, inadequate crosswalks, and limited pedestrian facilities create hazardous conditions that significantly increase accident risk, especially during nighttime hours.

Victims of pedestrian accidents in Prince George’s County may be entitled to compensation. In the tragic event of losing a loved one in a pedestrian accident in Prince George’s County, Maryland, families may pursue a wrongful death claim. These claims are typically filed by the personal representative of the deceased’s estate on behalf of surviving family members, particularly spouses, children, and parents of unmarried children.

The Maryland wrongful death statute allows eligible family members to seek compensation for several types of damages. These include financial losses such as the deceased’s future earnings and benefits, funeral and burial expenses, and medical costs incurred before death. Non-economic damages may include compensation for mental anguish, emotional pain and suffering, loss of companionship, and loss of parental guidance for minor children.

In Maryland, wrongful death claims must be filed within three years of the date of death. These cases require establishing that the defendant’s negligence directly caused the fatal accident. Given the complexity and emotional nature of these cases, families often benefit from legal representation with specific experience in pedestrian fatality claims. A Prince George’s County personal injury attorney can help navigate complicated insurance negotiations, gather evidence to establish liability, and ensure the family receives fair compensation during an incredibly difficult time.
