HARFORD COUNTY, MD (August 11, 2025) — A juvenile was airlifted to a hospital Monday morning after a serious crash that shut down all northbound lanes of Interstate 95 in Belcamp for several hours during the morning commute.
The crash occurred Monday morning on I-95 near the Maryland Route 543 exit in the Belcamp area, close to the Maryland House rest area. Maryland State Police responded to the scene along with emergency crews who worked to extract and treat the injured juvenile.
A medevac helicopter transported the juvenile to Johns Hopkins Children’s Center in Baltimore for treatment. The patient’s specific injuries and current condition have not been released by authorities.
All northbound lanes of I-95 were completely shut down following the crash, causing significant traffic delays that extended back to Maryland Route 24. State police directed traffic through the Maryland House property while Maryland Route 7 and U.S. Route 40 were recommended as alternate routes for drivers.
By 11:45 a.m., traffic cameras showed vehicles moving again with shoulders remaining closed for the ongoing investigation. Maryland State Police announced that all lanes had been fully reopened shortly after 12:30 p.m.
Maryland State Police continue to investigate the circumstances that led to the crash. No further information has been released at this time.
Serious crashes on major highways like Interstate 95 often result in life-threatening injuries, particularly when they involve young drivers who may lack the experience to handle high-speed driving situations. I-95 is one of the busiest corridors on the East Coast, carrying heavy truck and passenger vehicle traffic through Maryland.
Understanding the factors that contribute to serious highway crashes can help raise awareness about road safety:
The stretch of I-95 near Belcamp in Harford County is a heavily traveled section that connects the Baltimore-Washington corridor with destinations further north. The area around the Maryland House rest stop sees frequent traffic as drivers stop for breaks during long journeys.
When serious accidents occur on Maryland highways, victims and their families may be entitled to pursue personal injury or wrongful death claims depending on the circumstances. These cases can be complex, especially when they involve young drivers, multiple vehicles, or questions about fault.
Highway crashes often involve investigating factors such as speed, road conditions, vehicle maintenance, and driver behavior leading up to the accident. Insurance companies may attempt to minimize settlements, particularly in cases involving serious injuries that require extensive medical treatment and rehabilitation.
Families dealing with serious injuries from highway crashes face mounting medical bills, lost wages, and long-term care needs. Understanding your legal rights and options is crucial during this difficult time.
