5 stars

STAFFORD COUNTY, VA (March 4, 2025) – First responders had to cut open a car to extract a driver following a car crash on February 28.

According to news reports, around 12:30 a.m. troopers from the Stafford County Sherrif’s Office responded to a single-vehicle crash at Ferry Road and Braddock Drive. Witnesses had reported the car had rolled over and ended up in a ditch.

When emergency personnel arrive, they found bystanders trying to get the driver out of the car but were unable to because of how damaged the car was. Fire and rescue crews cut the passenger door off the car to get the driver out safely. He was later taken to the hospital for treatment.

While investigating the crash scene, deputies said they discovered a bottle of vodka. The driver admitted he had a consumed “a good amount” of alcohol. The driver was also not wearing his seatbelt at the time of the crash.

Police are investigating.

Drunk Driving Accidents in Stafford County

Drunk driving accidents in Virginia represent some of the most devastating and preventable tragedies on our roadways. When intoxicated individuals choose to get behind the wheel, they create a serious risk not only to themselves but to innocent motorists, passengers, and pedestrians. Drunk driving accidents often involve both civil liability and criminal penalties, which can make it challenging for victims seeking compensation.

Virginia follows a “pure contributory negligence” rule, which can make personal injury claims particularly challenging. Under this strict standard, if a victim is found even 1% at fault for their injuries, they may be barred from recovering any compensation. However, in drunk driving cases, the intoxicated driver’s negligence is often so clear and egregious that contributory negligence becomes less of a barrier. Additionally, Virginia allows for punitive damages in cases where the driver’s blood alcohol concentration exceeded 0.15% or where they knew their driving created an unreasonable risk of injury to others.

For victims of drunk driving accidents, the path to recovery often extends far beyond physical healing. Medical expenses, lost wages, property damage, and pain and suffering can create significant financial burdens. Many victims also experience long-term psychological impacts, including PTSD, anxiety, and depression. From a personal injury perspective, comprehensive representation focuses not only on immediate damages but also on securing compensation for future medical needs, ongoing therapy, and diminished quality of life resulting from the accident.
