What Are the Most Dangerous Intersections for Pedestrians in Washington DC?

5 stars

Our blog recently discussed a Governors Highway Safety Association (GHSA) report on fatal pedestrian accidents in the US. The report found that pedestrian accidents have increased over the past decade. WTOP recently published an article showing that some intersections in Washington, DC are safer for pedestrians than others. According to the article, some of DC’s most dangerous intersections are typically filled with pedestrians.

WTOP used crash data from the District Department of Transportation to create the article. The most dangerous intersections were ranked by the frequency of pedestrian crashes in 2017. Five of the most dangerous intersections for pedestrians in DC include:

  • Ninth & U Streets Northwest
  • Connecticut Avenue & N Street Northwest
  • First Street & Union Station Plaza Northeast
  • 16th Street & Kalorama Road Northwest
  • 17th & I streets Northwest

If you regularly walk near these intersections, then it is important to be extra cautious. This is especially true if you have your children with you while crossing one of these streets.

There are ways to reduce your chances of being involved in a pedestrian accident. We covered several methods in last month’s blog. However, you could still be hit by a vehicle even if you take precautionary measures to protect yourself. Like other places in the US, DC has distracted, drunk, and reckless drivers.
