New Software Aims to Bring Data to Bear on Problem of Auto Recalls

5 stars

J.D. Power, a global marketing information services company, recently announced the much ballyhooed launch of SafetyIQ, an online application that assists the auto industry in analyzing vehicle safety data. The firm developed the software in response to the record-setting numbers of vehicle recalls, complaints and technical service bulletins of recent years.

According to a press release, Safety IQ integrates information from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) with automotive data from J.D. Power. Industry professionals will be able to use the technology to make searches based on make, model and year more efficiently. They will also be able to distill key facts from multiple sources of data, using it to prioritize areas of focus and spot trends.

J.D. Power adds that the app records completion and overall recall rates, an advantage that gives an industry-wide view of safety data. This feature helps technicians and analysts acquire data on vehicles over 3 years old. Older cars usually get more complaints; and since such vehicles often no longer fall under warranty, their issues frequently escape the notice of manufacturers.

“With SafetyIQ, we’re bringing together critical information that has been buried within piles of data to help automotive professionals analyze trends and quickly access the information they need to improve vehicle safety,” said Renee Stephens, vice president of U.S. automotive at J.D. Power.
