This Saturday, March 17, millions of people will step out to enjoy the many, parades, parties and pints of green beer in celebration of St. Patrick’s Day—potentially hundreds of thousands here in the D.C. area alone. While many will make arrangements not to drink and drive, the reality is sometimes no one wants to be the “designated driver” for the group. In these cases, many car services and organizations in cities around the country offer free rides to revelers who want to get home safely. Here in the Washington, D.C. area, the Washington Regional Alcohol Program (WRAP) is once again partnering with ride platform Lyft to provide free rides through their SoberRide program.
WRAP is a nonprofit group serving the D.C. area that is dedicated the prevention of drunk driving and underage drinking in our region. Through programs like SoberRide, they have been providing safe rides home for impaired drivers on high-risk holidays like St. Patrick’s Day since 1991. Lyft is one of the best-known ride sharing platforms in the U.S., and users can arrange for transportation in more than 300 cities via their mobile app.
If you plan to celebrate this weekend but don’t have a clear plan for getting home safely—or if those plans fall through for some reason—we encourage you to take advantage of the SoberRide program. Simply download the Lyft app for your device if you don’t yet have it, create an account, then check WRAP’s SoberRide webpage after 2:00 p.m. on Saturday to get a special promo code for your free ride home. When you need your ride home, contact Lyft via the app, input your code and your ride home is free, up to $15!
As a reminder—never get behind the wheel while you’re impaired, on St. Patrick’s Day or any day. With free ride programs in D.C. and across the country, no one has an excuse. Stay safe and keep others safe as well! If you or someone you love is injured in an accident, contact our Washington, DC car accident attorneys to learn how we can help.
